6.3.2Enterprise Architecture Capability Maturity and Scope
It is important to review the existing enterprise architecture work and architecture capability maturity. The Gill Framework® provides the adaptive capability maturity model (ACMM) to support the maturity assessment of an adaptive capability (see Chapter 9 for supporting models). The SFS enterprise can use the ACMM to formally assess their existing enterprise architecture capability and identify the target maturity level. It is assumed that the SFS enterprise has a well-defined and mature enterprise architecture capability (ACMM – Level 3: Defined). They have solution architects, domain architects and chief enterprise architects. The SFS enterprise architect team reports to the CIO. The SFS enterprise architecture capability provides architectural support to different business and IT projects across the enterprise. The SFS needs to develop an adaptive cloud enterprise architecture capability within the existing traditional enterprise architecture capability. The adaptive cloud enterprise architecture capability will provide cloud architecture support to different cloud projects across the enterprise. Cloud architecture should not only be perceived as a technology architecture. It is not appropriate to consider cloud architecture in isolation of other existing enterprise architecture layers, such as business, information, social and facility architectures. Cloud architecture should begin from business architecture. Therefore, the scope of the adaptive cloud enterprise architecture for the SFS should be considered in conjunction with the other architecture layers.
